Antioch Township man charged in fatal drug overdose
Antioch police said Friday they have charged a man with drug-induced homicide in a 2023 drug overdose of a village resident.
Jack Foley, 20, of Antioch Township, was taken into custody in connection with the death of a 17-year-old village resident, police said.
Police said the youth died on Feb. 11, 2023, at a residence in the 400 block of Illinois Route 173. First responders called to the home found the youth unresponsive. An autopsy later showed the youth had died from taking fentanyl-laced pills which were sold as opioid pills, authorities said.
An investigation showed that the youth bought the pills from Foley, who was an acquaintance, according to police. An arrest warrant was issued for Foley and he was taken into custody.
In addition to drug-induced homicide, Foley has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, police said.
“A 17-year-old lost his life, while another young man will have to live with the consequences of his decision to engage in the distribution of these dangerous substances into our communities, which has devastating impacts not only within our community but in all communities across the nation,” Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said.
