Trump endorses NC House Speaker Tim Moore in congressional bid

North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore picked up a key endorsement in his 2024 bid for a congressional seat.

Former President Donald Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination, backed Moore in a post on his social media feed, Truth Social.

Moore, a Cleveland County Republican has been in the state House since 2003, is the longest-serving state House speaker in North Carolina history. Moore will complete his fifth term as House speaker in the 2024 session. He’s seeking his party’s nomination for the 14th Congressional district seat in the 2024 elections.

“Speaker Tim Moore is doing a fantastic job leading the North Carolina House of Representatives, and he is now running to represent the Wonderful People of North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District,” a post on Trump’s page said.

“As your next Congressman, Tim will work hard to Secure the Border, Stop Inflation, Strengthen our Military, Lower Taxes, Defend the Second Amendment, and Stand Up to the Woke Mob destroying our Great Country. Tim Moore is a Proven Conservative, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

The 14th district is in southern North Carolina, west of Charlotte. It includes all or parts of Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cleveland, Rutherford, Burke and Polk counties.

The district is currently represented by Democrat Jeff Jackson, but it has been redrawn to heavily favor Republicans. Jackson is not running for reelection. He is running for state attorney general.

Moore has raised more than $1.4 million for his campaign and has more than $1.3 million cash on hand.

Jeff Gregory and Lillian Joseph are also running in the Republican primary. Neither has reported raising any money with the Federal Election Commission.

The primary is March 5 and early voting has already begun.

Trump has also endorsed Republicans in the 5th Congressional District (incumbent Virginia Foxx), 6th Congressional District (Addison McDowell) and 9th Congressional District (incumbent Richard Hudson).
